If you ever have the opportunity to attend the Edinburgh Tattoo, you should.  This is one of those “once in a lifetime” things that is worth a splurge (and if it is an options, do spend the extra money for the good tickets with a straight on view of the castle!)

Edinburgh Tattoo at Edinburgh Castle

The event plays out in front of the stunning background of Edinburgh Castle and features the very best pipe and drum bands from around the world, and it often sells out months in advance.  It is possible to get last minute “rush line” tickets…check with the ticket office the day before the event.

The effect of hundreds of pipers and drummers in full Scottish regalia playing together is heart stopping, and a great showcase of the best of Scottish culture.  It is something that I will never forget!

  1. Ahhhh – we went to this last year and it was raining so hard the entire time. We had to leave early, it was just too wet even with ponchos…such a waste because I really wanted to see the finale!

    1. Arrrhhh! That sucks! The finale was good…if I remember correctly, it was a lone piper playing a mournful song from the walls of the castle following by the entire audience singing along to Auld Lang Syne…guess you will have an excure to go back, then!
